Special Projects

You still have a chance to

Buy A Letter

Rebbetzin Chana  & Reb Levi Yitzchak  Sefer Torah!

ThIS SPECIAL SEFER TORAH WAS COMPLETED BUT THERE ARE STILL PARSHAS THAT CAN BE PURCHASED.

There are 613 Mitzvot (Commandments in the Torah). The very last one is the Mitzvah for every Jew to write a Torah Scroll.  Our Sages tell us this can be accomplished by "buying" a single letter of a complete Torah Scroll which is being written.  A beautiful idea is to buy one for every member of the family.

The Torah joins all the separate  letters, and they become one unit: the holy Torah. Whether a child or an adult, having a letter in the Sefer Torah expresses our being part of the unity of the entire Jewish people. A Torah from which even one letter is missing cannot be used. So every single one of us is needed, man, woman and child.

Do you have your letter?

You have a chance to take part in the  Mitzva of writing a Sefer Torah.

There are 304,805 letters in a Scroll. One can purchase a Parsha (portion) for $2000, a Perek(chapter) for $630, a Possuk (phrase) for $63, or a word for  $18.  Or one can opt to buy single letters for each member of the family for $3. One can purchase in the Parsha of their choice.

A few more facts about a Sefer Torah.

  • A Sefer Torah must be written by a Sofer (a specially trained scribe).

  • A Sefer Torah must be hand written therefore it takes approximately one year to write an entire Sefer Torah.

  • All materials used for the Sefer Torah must be Kosher.

  • There are over 4000 laws a Sofer must know before he starts writing the Sefer Torah!

  • A Sofer must have the proper intention, when writing the Torah and especially when writing G-d's name.

  • There are 304,805 letters in a Sefer Torah.

  • If only one letter is missing the whole Torah is Pasul (not Kosher).

  • If there is an extra letter it is also Pasul.

  • Substituting one letter with another is also NO good.

  • 99% Kosher = 100% Pasul (not Kosher).

  • There are 248 amudim (pages) in a Sefer Torah.

  • Each page has 42 lines.

  • Even the spacing between words & paragraphs must be exact.

The Siyum Sefer Torah

Rebbitzen Chana & Reb Levi Yitzchok

Vav Tishrei  marked 40 years since the passing of our beloved mother, Rebbitzen Chana A"H. What greater tribute can we have given her than writing a Sefer Torah in her  & Reb Levi Yitzchok's memory and how appropriate a gift from her daughters at Machon Chana.

The Siyum Sefer Torah that took place on Vav Tishrei is an event that will long be remembered. Thousands of men,  women and children took part in this historical event. Crown Heighters were joined by hundreds of guests from throughout the world who came to spend Tishrei with the Rebbe.

The Siyum took place at the new Machon Chana Center with great pomp. Rabbi Henig, the Sofer arrived from Eretz Yisroel for the event. While hundreds of men arrived between the hours of 3:00 & 7:00 to be honored with writing a letter in this special Sefer Torah in the Shul, women and children (who were given special nash bags) sat in the new beautiful lounge watching event on a video screen. and partaking from the buffet the students set up. The building was bustling with excitement as people were equally excited with beautiful new facility as with the event itself. It was truly a Kiddush Hashem.

Outside of the building a mob was gathering as the most beautiful majestic float and chuppah with a revolving gold crown arrived. The lively Chassidic music brought people out of their homes. At around 7:00 PM the procession began as the finished Sefer Torah was brought down and led to the awaiting Chuppah. The ever growing crowd led by hundreds of kids with glowing torches marched down Crown Street and onto Kingston Ave.

The procession stopped at the corner of President and Kingston. The famous building "1414" which now houses 400 Yeshiva bochurim, was once the apartment building where Rebbitzen Chana lived. When the parade arrived at the dorm, Rabbi Majeski, our dear principal stopped the music and took the mike. He told the of the Rebbe's love of this special house, how it was purchased in honor of Rebbitzen Chana, the Rebbe's numerous visits there and how he called it "My home" and the girls "My daughters." It was truly moving. The next stop was equally touching. As the float arrived in front of the house where the Rebbe and Rebbitzen Chaya Mushka lived, little boys carrying torches glowing in the night spontaneously walked up the front steps and knocked on the door.

The march continued down New York Ave and up Eastern Parkway, in its wake bringing more and more people. At arrival in front of 770, hundreds of Israeli guests crowded on the balcony to watch the spectacle.

Though each moment was truly memorable, watching all the other Sefer Torahs coming out of 770 to welcome the newest addition was most touching. The Rebbe's Sefer Torah (among others, each with its own history) came to dance at the chuppah of his parent's Sefer Torah.

Hakafos began and the Simcha was intense. Many people were called up for the zchus. The unity and kedusha felt is hard to describe. At about 10:00 AM the Sefer Torah was finally led into 770 where a seudas mitzvah was prepared for the close to a thousand people that remained. A farbrengen with speakers was prepared to take full advantage of the Hisorres that took place and heighten our hiskashrus on this auspicious Yarzeit of our mother, Rebbitzen Chana.

May the hisorres remain with us and bring the immediate Geulah

The Sefer Torah will remain in 770 until the new "Levi Yitzchok Shul" which will be in the Machon Chana Women's Center will be opened . This unique Shul will offer mentorship, a sense of belonging and importance, a place to grow spiritually, daven and learn. The new Levi Yitzchak Shul will provide all of this and more in a warm, loving atmosphere. Both newcomers to Torah learning and ordained Rabbis will farbreng, learn and share. In memory of the Rebbe’s father obm, the Levi Yitzchok Shul will not only have Shabbos minyanim and kiddushim, but will have minyanim three times a day and shiurim throughout the week. Women and girls are encouraged to join  on Shabbos.

Most Parshas have been sold, but there is still some left to choose from. Donor opportunities include Parshas, Prakim, Psukim and letters. Additionally there are the mantel, crown, yad, aron and paroches.
