The Teaching Certificate is awarded to those who have completed all the requirements of the two year, full-time program and have completed the additional 18 credit sequence of courses in education. This sequence includes seminars, lectures, workshops and classroom observation in selected primary and pre-school classrooms in the area. In the final semester, students will student-teach under the guidance of a Machon Chana supervisor. Seminars for teachers are offered on a regular basis, to enhance and update teaching skills. The Teaching Certificate program is coordinated by Devorah Barnett and Dr. Nechi King, Associate Professor of Education at Towson State University.

- The Child as a Learner
PS1 - 2 credits
This course is an introduction to child development. Understanding physical, social and psychological development; organizing the learning environment to reflect developmentally appropriate practice. Emphasis is placed on the unique needs of the Yeshiva Day School Child.
- Curriculum Planning
CP1 - 2 credits
Initial experience in planning instruction. Emphasis on selecting developmentally appropriate objectives, materials, activities and assessment. Topics include: role of teacher in active learning; introduction to teaching models; developing effective lesson plans; designing effective homework; assessing children's learning.
- Methods I
M1 - 2 credits
Planning instruction for Kindergarten through 3rd grade: Davening; Parsha; Jewish Laws and Customs; Hebrew Reading.
- Methods II
M2 - 2 credits
Planning instruction for 2nd through 8th grade, including Chumash, Hebrew, Yiddish, Laws and Customs, History, and Ethics.
- Instructional Design
ID1 - 2 credits
In-depth study of models of instructional delivery. Unit planning. Bi-weekly observation at local schools.
- Classroom Management
CM1 - 2 credits
Models of discipline. Understanding children's classroom behavior. Classroom management and appropriate discipline strategies.
- Student Teaching
ST1 - 4 credits
Five half-days weekly in a supervised setting. Participation in every aspect of the teaching role. Opportunity to implement curriculum planning and instructional delivery.
